Either she is or she isn't, there is experience in
being a whore, but the numbers are
against it
The lightning has some mercy
But numbers are just numbers, oh yes and
pain is just pain, blood is just blood and
death is just death
The lightning has lots of mercy
Is Mary a virgin? I don't know, Loretta is a whore
is Mary a virgin? was Mary a virgin? will Mary
always be a virgin?
Maybe too much mercy
The wind is cold now, did you feel the wind get
cold Mary? I wonder if there are numbers in
the wind
Close the shade the storm is too bright, the sun
is behind there you know
("Of course the wind is cold you fool, it's
October"
"Yes I know, but it's taking a bad turn")
Maybe too much mercy
I can see well in the darkness, can you Loretta?,
the darkness forces you to really look,
now I see the storm
Loretta, you are not a whore, are you? please
say no (say yes), please say no (say yes)
say no (please say yes), no, no, no!
Maybe too much mercy
The numbers don't lie (the numbers can lie),
but they don't!
It's late now, when do you
think this storm will end?

Clouds of What Will Be
10/13/79
Clouds of What Will Be
A cloud rolls by over the horizon
Not knowing where he will go
Only where he's been,
The wind blows so hard
What is now very quickly
Becomes then,
But why does the cloud
Even bother when the wind
Seems to dictate what he will see,
But there is only one choice
for these are clouds,
clouds of what will be.

Surrender
In the soul, there lies the truth deeper than
the heart, it is what is
The splendor of all things which are hidden where
the eye can't see, thru the door of darkness
There is a promise which is carved with thought
and will be lived by its artist
And if so love must end in hate so life must
end in death
Time is all that is eternal and goes unnoticed
except in years
Yet this is home, which lies beyond the eternal
door of the setting sun
So I surrender all beauty for love and so life for
season, so now kill me, kill me darling one.

To Come to a Place
To come to a place
where there is no beginning
and no end,
And to know this
is true, to know there is only now
and this has always been,
To know the only
person you can touch is you
then you are ready to learn.

The Conscience Speaks
The conscience speaks
and lightning strikes
the truth is never known,
The many eyes of sunset
watch while the inner voices
drone,
The harvest is reaped then raped and
the reapers all gone home,
Crash sun, burn moon
don't leave me here alone.

The Eagle
On a cool summer day
the eagle flies high unseen
to all,
The trees so still they
look like a painting, they grow
old as night comes to call.
I could catch the eagle
one dares to say,
but a thousand times he landed
and a thousand times he flew away.
His wings make the thunder
his tears make the rain,
The clouds his nest
his destiny his pain.
So illusion is his way
if only you could hold on
and ride the wind you feel
but seems to pass you by like a ghost,
To the home of nothing
to the home of all
and the eagle is the host.
Come home the thunder demanded,
but first tell me
where has the eagle landed.

On a Night Like This
On a night like this
the shadow died,
On a starry, starry night
the widow cried.
All things pass
mysteries are solved
words are spoken
vows dissolved.
Thru eyes like this
the world is inhaled
in colored eyes of blue
the spirit is jailed.

All things must pass,

If the Titanic Sailed at Dawn
If the Titanic sailed at dawn,
I'd buy a ticket just to prove you wrong,
There's only so much you can
Sing in a song.

Death Hawk
Life opens its doors to us,
We gather and mock,
Distance neither great or small,
Measured steps as we walk,
Death then comes slow,
Or screeching like a hawk.

The Drifter
"Boy like you"
"Really get ahead in these parts"
"Don't know much"
"But I can spot a kid with smarts"
"Got a wife?"
"Don't matter, we got plenty to choose"
"Ah, fair young maidens"
"Boy like you"
"Got nothing to lose"
"Where's the hotel?"
"Two blocks down, take a left"
"You staying long?"
"Just tonight, tomorrow I'll be gone"
"That's to bad, like I say"
"Boy like you"
"Wish you'd stay"
"I remember your age"
"Now it moves too fast"
"Boys like you"
"They just don't last"

TheEndBegin
The end begin,
Hello friend,
Show light, Shine bright.
The flowering buds,
The planted seed.
Light of mercy,
Show little need.
Her gray light,
God's blue day,
Slow fight, Hold Tight.
A parting lover's embrace,
A shared dance.
Light of mercy,
On dead romance.
Her new face,
Our new day,
Dusk needs, Dawn leads.
The silhouette of the storm,
Shade of doom.
Love of mercy,
Mend our tomb.
Her sweet kiss,
Unseen bliss,
Night feeds, Day Breeds.
A vision of beauty,
The bridge of sighs.
Light of mercy,
Burn our eyes.
Night's dust descends,
Lie so still,
Moon sprawls, Sun awes.
The stars of wonder,
Gods no more,
Light of desire,
Darken the shore.
Night's dreams unleashed,
Hunger and prowl,
Night dies, Darkness cries.
In darkness we wait,
Eyes open wide.
Light of desire,
Find my bride.
The end begin,
Goodbye friend,
Day falls, Night calls.
To sleep to dream,
The powers that be.
Light of desire,
Have mercy on me.

She Doesn't Dance
A ghost danced across the floor,
and disappeared when looked upon
by human eyes.
A tear streamed down her beautiful face
and evaporated before it reached the floor
but later fell as rain.
I plundered her sweet innocence
taking all her pleasures
and later felt her pain.

The Tree
We stood under the tree,
The rain fell softly.
We heard the grumpy bullfrog's song.
I kissed you and the rain on your
cheeks ran into my mouth.
We sat down under the tree,
The ground was damp.
We talked of the future together.
The meadow filled with rain smelled so sweet.
I held your hand wet with rain,
I could have died under the tree,
With your hand in mine.
Then the wind began to blow.
Half way up the hill,
We looked back at the tree.

Wait till evening,

Sometimes we want too much,

Sometimes we need so much,

We don't know what.

Tomorrow's Feet
I stand here on tomorrow's feet,
Gazing down yesterday's street,
The heaven's dome over my head,
Earth's rock to lean on.
I knew a yesterday now,
And of a tomorrow's yesterday,
But I didn't know when yesterday ended.
I turned to walk,
Then looked around,
Not lost, Just looking.
I stopped at The Waffle Iron (I do everyday)
Coffee, toast, two eggs....scrambled.
Newspaper reads,
Like yesterday's, like tomorrow's.
Coffee's always good,
I guess that's why I come here everyday.

The Alter
I drank from the river Lethe
I know all and remember nothing
Each step a new day, each day a new world.
I slip thru time unnoticed
I walk thru the wind untouched
Each step a new day, each day a new world.
Come take my hand,
So we may go together,
I will lead,
And we will follow.
And we will walk thru the garden unashamed.
Come take my hand,
So we may sing the song,
Song of soil,
And naked bare rock.
And we will walk into the cool water and bathe.
Let us share this cold world,
And this warm light,
Kneel in the valley of stone,
Earn this glorious pain.
And watch the night give way to dawn.
Time and time again-
and know the sorrows
and love the stone
and worship tomorrows
when flesh gone bone
Come take my hand,
And we will slip thru the wind untouched,
Each step a new day, each day a new world.

Some Poetry doesn't Rhyme
Some poetry doesn't rhyme,
Like the river that flows to the lake,
Like the spider to the fly.
Sometimes the night's not so dark,
Like the clouds across the sun,
Like the caterpillar to the butterfly.
Sometimes the winter is not so cold,
The summer so warm
The springtime so late
And autumn too soon.
And sometimes,
Some poetry doesn't rhyme.

Don't fly away little bird,
Stay and sing for me,
"And will you sing for me?",
What song would you hear?,
"The prettiest one you know",
But you have just sang
The prettiest one I know.

From Here
From here,
I can see over the snow capped mountains,
and the frost covered hills,
I can see thru the charade of vanity,
and all sensational thrills.
From here,
I can hear the sound of distant music,
the palpitation of subtle drums,
I hear you call to me and welcome,
whoever comes.
From here,
I feel white heat as it melts the ice,
and burns the fire,
I feel your warm breath as you,
playfully laugh at my desire.

From One the Twain
The universe bleeds
thru cracked ice
into the world,
the void feeds
thru hungry lips
and nurses its pearl.
We feel the wind,
as she spreads her wings,
and try so hard to rejoice
in the song she sings.
Her beauty not unnoticed
but still remains untouched,
we seek the milky breast
for to nurse from the crux.
From one the twain
has given birth,
one from flame
and one from dirt.
We comprehend
but not understand,
blessed is the universe
woe is man.

All Has Been Done
At the alter,
the bride waits for the groom,
Good intentions,
wallow in the tomb,
The fire,
burns on high,
The spark,
blown out in a sigh,
The path,
lies clear and bright,
The road,
shrouded in light,
That's the way,
that's the way,
which way to go?
There is no need to choose,
this is all you can know.
All has been done,
there is only one,
there is only one.

Tonight We Begin
2/21/86
Tonight We Begin
Cast the angels down from heaven
For tonight we sail uncharted seas
And the dreamer shall not sleep thru this dream
And yesterday's morning shall collect tomorrow's fees
All martyrs let fall your chains
This is the night of the shining
Keep this cloud in your pocket
And hold fast your shovels for mining
All you who are fearful and have not died of your fright
Come you fast,
For this is the night
this is the night
Trouble shall fall back, back down to hell's gate
And there will be trouble no more
For we will move with perfect motion and know our way
And feel from the crust to the core
As the beast of burden paces in the yard
We may know his pain but share it not
Sanctuary is a prison palace
And the floor will slowly rot
What you have tried so hard to keep without is already within
Come you all,
For tonight we begin
tonight we begin

Sleep
Oh these days and their restless ways
Think about sleep,
What could it be,
Think about you,
Think about me,
What does it mean,
What could it mean,
Could it mean nothing,
Could it mean everything,
Where is the truth
Nowhere, everywhere, anywhere
I'll go there, I am there, I am here
Oh these days and their restless ways
Think about sleep.
Dance

This is stupid it don't make sense
these pretty words just make me wince

Well how 'bout that.

Touch the Void
Touch the void
Feel the emptiness caress you
Notice eternity in minutes
Seek nourishment in this all but spent wasteland
Then talk about midnight,
Watch the dawn,
Live without reason,
And die without cause.
7/15/86
Bleak I Stand
Bleak I stand, hanging in the balance
Of everything that is anything
Of anything that is all things
Broken I stand, singing songs of old
To anyone who may listen
To anyone who is everyone
Dumb I stand, straining to know
Of any knowledge I can grasp
Of any knowledge I can keep
Naked I stand, with my newlywed lover
Wanting to make love without vengeance
Wanting to make love at all
Bleak I stand, hanging in the balance
Of the promises I'm sworn to
Of the death of another day.

Poetry From the Long Night
The newspapers' danced and
the moths read
as the music beats, wilder and wilder
and the night pulsed
and then flew away
and pulsed
and then flew away
and pulsed
on and on the darkness pulses
sucking living breath from my lips
never to return
go away
please stay
on and on, the river wilder, wilder,
wilder, wilder
and then
the moths die and lie scattered
under the porch light
***
Do your strange dance on the table
make it last my love
Dance
don't leave me
or else
***
Boggie your fucking socks off as your
madness, tenderness, yearning and love
takes over part of my soul, and it says
I love you too
***
If I could only learn, not clenched fists
but open arms - the music cries, why can't I?
and the music smiles, why can't I?
if I laugh, I know I won't cry
if I laugh, I know I won't cry
give me shelter
from this shelter
set me free in this storm
I can make it, yes I can
it's a storm but it's my storm
thunder and lightning
it's over
romantic night, dark sad night
it's over
now I can cry
***
And I'm not even out in the night
I'm in here under artificial lights
induced, seduced, confused
but yet
aware
the night pulses
***
Not today, sun go back down
let's have today, tomorrow
this night can last forever
this night will last forever.

Turning Leaves
The fall is dropping its leaves once again
to reveal the skeletons of the bare limbs
the now unneeded shade of summer
lies scattered on the ground
we prepare for the cold winter
the winter of icy solitude
the dry, cold, pure air
boats, hats, gloves and coats
and it is but once again short lived
for when the spring has come of age
once again we turn the page.
